From Atop the Sky...
07.03.06

~The choppers are going...the brown roofs dominate the eye...one distinct statue rises up from the landscape. Fa bel tempo a Firenze...Piacere!.....il bello ragazzo sto molto importante. As the legend goes, the genius artist was challenged to make something out of a piece of marble that was already mutilated by other craftsman without success. Michelangelo vowed to make
the greatest sculpture there ever was out of it.

What is it that man cannot do??? The center of the fable known as David and Goliath is the capability of man against seemingly insurmountable odds. All it took was a few stones from a sling to slay the giant.

The nakedness is shocking at first....one arm is holding a sling over the shoulder...the other arm is tensely waiting for the time to act. The subject is obviously a young man....he has a full head of hair....the weight is shifted a
little towards the right. He seems to be athletically inclined....the confidence
is clear....the hands are larger than normal....as well as the head.

There are two artists especially who offered up realistic versions of humans through their works. One is Michelangelo Buonarroti and the other is Leonardo da Vinci. Both are known to have, as the source for their exactitude, illicitly worked on cadavers.

David is humongous....it towers above the people attempting to view it....the greatness of man fills the soul....pure power is present. No project is too big....
no problem without a solution....no hiding beneath the veneer of society....unabashed resolve to uncover the unifying underpinnings. Florence, "at one time, planned to put it in the central square of the city. It still is a sign of the Florentine spirit even though the original is quarantined within the confines of a museum. He is built to accomplish....activity is imminent....focus
on the task ahead....the virtues of the man who is capable.
